A: 야, 지난번에 내가 말한 영화 기억해? 나 봤어.
A: Hey, remember that movie I told you about last time? I watched it.
B: 뭐야 안 본다면서?
B: What?! I thought you weren’t watching that.
A: (안본다고) 그랬었는데… 우연히 재밌는 사실을 알게 됐어.
A: I wasn’t, but then I came across a very interesting fact.
(come across: 우연히 ~을 알게 되다)
B: 뭐?
B: What?
A: Patrick Wilson, 아빠로 나오는 사람, 그 사람이 이걸 감독했더라고. 내가 찾아 봤는데 진짜더라고.
A: Patrick Wilson, the guy who plays the father, he directed this one. That’s right. I looked it up and it’s true.
B: 배우가 감독하는거 드문일이 아니야. Denzel Washington이 그랬고. Ben Afflect도 그랬어.
B: It’s not unusual / (uncommon) for the actor to direct a movie. Denzel Washington did it. Ben Afflect did it.
A: 맞아. 그동안 Patrick Wilson 한테 정이 든 모양이야. 내가 그 사람 팬이라고 생각을 해 본 적은 없지만. 근데 그 사람 영화를 많이 보다 보니…
내 말은 Insidious랑 Conjuring 프렌차이즈 영화가 합쳐서 8편이나 돼.
A: You’re right. I guess I’ve grown fond of Patrick Wilson over the years. I’ve never thought of myself as a fan but having seen so many of his films…
I mean, just the Insidious and the Conjuring franchises themselves add up to, what?, like 8 movies.
(grow fond of S/T: ~가 좋아지다)
B: 그래. 너 그 남자 좋아하구나. 이해했어. 그럼 그 영화 어땠어?
B: All right. You love the guy. I get it. So how was the movie?
A: 내가 생각했던 것보다 훨씬 더 좋았어. 완전 좋진 아닌데, 잠재성이 보여. 그 사람이 더 많은 영화를 감독했으면 정말 좋겠다.
A: It was much better than I thought. It certainly wasn’t anything to write home about, but it showed so much potential. I’m really hoping that he directs more movies.
(It certainly wasn’t anything to write home about: 집에 편지 쓰면서까지 떠들만한 이야기는 아니지만)
