[English] As ~ As 용법

1. be not as [Adj.] as [N]

보통 어떤 대상과 대상을 비교할 때 다음과 같이 표현한다.

내 친구가 나보다 키가 커.
My friend is taller than me.

이런 표현은 다음과 같이도 표현 가능하다.

나는 내 친구보다 키가 작아.
I’m shorter than my friend.

그리고 다음과 같이 as ~ as 구문을 통해 표현이 가능하다.

나는 친구만큼 크지 않아.
I’m not as tall as my friend.

Example

오늘이 어제보다 추워.
Today is colder than yesterday.
어제는 오늘만큼 춥지 않았어.
Yesterday wasn’t as cold as today.

리메이크가 원작보다 좋은거 같아.
I think the remake is better than the original.
원작이 리메이크만큼 좋지 않은거 같아.
The original is not as good as the remake.
(The original is worse than the remake.)

2. not [V] [Adv.] as [Adj.] as [N]

Example

저는 다른 사람들만큼 빨리 못먹어요.
I can’t eat as quickly as others.

저는 친구들만큼 열심히 공부 안해요.
I don’t study as hard as my friends.

저는 그녀만큼 자주 운동을 하지 않아요.
I don’t work out as often as her.

저는 부모님만큼 일찍 안 일어나요.
I don’t get up as early as my parents.

3. not [V] [Adv.] as [Adj.] as [S] [V]

2번과의 차이점은 어떤 행위에 대해서 좀 더 강조할 때 사용한다.

Example

그녀는 저만큼 여행하는걸 좋아하지 않아요.
She doesn’t enjoy traveling as much as I do.

걔네들만큼 영화를 보러 자주 안가요.
I don’t go to the movies as often as they do.

우리 형은 저만큼 부모님을 자주 안뵈러 가.
My brother doesn’t visit out parents as much as I do.

걔는 이거에 대해서 나만큼 걱정이 안되는 모양이야.
She doesn’t seem to be worried about this as much as I am.

내 딸이 느끼는 것 만큼 난 덥지 않았어.
I didn’t feel as hot as my daughter did.

4. 양의 차이 비교

Example

나는 너만큼 시간이 많지 않아.
I don’t have as much time as you.

걔는 우리만큼 돈을 많이 못벌어.
She can’t make as much money as we do.

나는 걔만큼 친구가 많지 않아.
I don’t have as many friends as he does.
(셀 수 있는 명사는 many)

걔네는 우리만큼 경험이 많지 않아.
They don’t have as much experience as we do.

나는 걔만큼 실수를 많이 하지 않았어.
I didn’t make as many mistakes as she did.

나는 너만큼 거기에 많이 안가봤어.
I haven’t been there as many times as you have.
(I haven’t been there as much as you 도 가능하지만 위의 예문이 더 적절)

나는 너만큼 걔를 많이 안만나봤어.
I haven’t met her as many times as you have.

5. 시점 간의 차이 비교

Example

내가 학생이었을 때는 지금만큼 외향적이지 않았어.
When I was in school, I wasn’t as outgoing as I am now.

내 핸드폰이 처음 샀을 때만큼 빠르지 않아.
My phone isn’t as fast as it was when I first got it.

20년 전에는 지금만큼 취직하는게 어렵지 않았어.
About 20 years ago, getting a job wasn’t as hard as it is now.

걔는 그녀를 처음 만났을 때만큼 그녀에게 잘해주지 않아.
He doesn’t treat her as well as he used to when they first met.
(과거에 반복되었 던 것들을 표현 할 때는 used to가 더 적절하다.)

1년 전에는 지금만큼 집안일이 많지 않았어.
An year ago, there wasn’t as much housework as it is now.

요즘은 일을 하기 전만큼 극장에 자주 안가.
I don’t go to the movies as often as I used to before I started working.

내 핸드폰 배터리가 처음 샀을 때만큼 오래 가지 않아.
My phone battery doesn’t last as long as it did when I first got it.

내가 생각했던 것만큼 어렵진 않았어요.
It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be.
(it would be는 붙여주는게 더 자연스럽다.)

내가 생각했던 것만큼 멀지 않았어.
I didn’t feel as far as I thought it would be.

학생이었을 때만큼 시간이 많지 않아.
I don’t have as much time as I used to when I was in school.

처음 이사했을 때는 지금 만큼 가구가 많지 않았어요.
When I first moved, I didn’t have as much furniture as I do now.

생각처럼 사람이 많지 않았어요.
There wasn’t as many people as I though there would be.

저희가 생각했던 것만큼 관광을 할 기회가 없었어요.
We didn’t get as many chances to go sightseeing as we thought we would.
