V + V-ing

특정 동사들은 뒤에 따라오는 목적어로 V-ing를 취하는 동사들이 존재한다.

keep, stop, look forward to, give up, enjoy, finish 등이 있다.

Example

걔(남자)는 계속 나한테 나쁜 인상을 줬어.
He kept making a bad impression on me.

나, 계속 영어공부 하고 싶어.
I want to keep studying Enlish.

너, 왜 계속 날 뻔히 쳐다보는 거야?
Why do you keep staring at me?

머리 그만 만지작거려.
Stop playing with your hair.

너, 왜 거기 가기를 기대하고 있어?
Why are you looking forward to going there?

걔(여자)는 시험 보는 걸 기대하지 않아.
She doesn’t look forward to taking a test.

난 내 시간 포기하는거 뭐하러 해~
Why do I bother to give up my time.

재밌어?
Are you enjoying your self?

난 집안일 일찍 끝냈어.
I finished doing housework early.

너, 저 샌드위치 언제 다 먹을 거야?
When are you going to finish eating that sandwich?

V + to V

위 동사들과 반대로 특정 동사는 뒤에 to + V 구조를 요구하는 동사들이 존재한다.

plan, decide, mean, bother, learn 등이 있다.

Example

난 내 오래된 물건을 치울 계획이야.
I plan to get rid of my old stuff.

걔(남자)는 자기 보온병 가져올 계획 없대.
He deosn’t plan to bring his thermos.

난 식비를 아끼기로 결정했어.
I decide to save my money on food.

넌 그남자 때릴 의도였어?
Did you mean to hit him?

난 귀찮아서 저 부분을 안했어.
I didn’t bother to do that par.

학생들이 자기들 답을 귀찮아서 확인하지 않았어.
The students didn’t bother to check their answers.

너, 뭐 하러 자리를 양보해?
Why do you bother to give up you seat?

넌 사람들한테 고맙다고 말하는 거 안 배웠어?
Didn’t you learn to thank people?

넌 작은 일들에 감사하는 걸 배워야 돼.
You have to learn to appreciate small things.

어쩌지, 우린 식비를 아끼지 못해.
I’m afraid we can’t save money on food.

네가 가기로 결정한 게 다행이지 않아?
Aren’t you afraid you decided to go?

우리 아내는 내가 담배 끊어서 다행이래.
My wife is glad I gave up smoking.

집안일이 오래 걸리고 있어.
My chors taking me a long time.

Did the housework take you for 5 hours?

왜 이렇게 오래 걸렸어?
What took you so long?

너, 왜 이렇게 오래 걸려? 난 12시가 통금이야.
What is taking you so long? I have a 12:00 curfew.

걔(여자)가 여기 도착하는게 오래 걸리고 있어.
It’s taking her a long time to get here.

난 나쁜 습관을 고치는데 5년 걸렸어.
It takes me five years to break a bad habit.

당신의 배우자를 이해하려면 사랑이 필요합니다.
It takes love to understand your spouse.

걔(남자)는 샤워 하는데 겨우 5분 걸렸어.
He took only 5 minutes to take a shower.

내가 그 방 전체를 페인트칠 하는데 노력이 많이 들었어.
It took me a lot of efforts to paint the entire room.

내가 네 휴대전화 추전했다고.
I said I charged your smartphone.

난 걔(여자) 새로운 코가 맘에 든다고 했을 뿐인데.
I just said I liked her new nose.

정답을 설명하는데 노력이 많이 들지 않았다고 난 말한 적 없어.
I never said it didn’t take a lot of efforts to explain the answer.

네가 담배 끊는거 정말 오래 걸리네.
It sure is taking you a long time to give up smoking.
