1. 마침

1.1 happen to

happen to [V] 를 통해 ‘마침’ 이라는 말을 표현할 수 있다.

Example

마침 나한테 지금 현금이 좀 있어.
I happen to have some cash on me right now.
(on me: 나한테)

마침 나한테 진짜 좋은 생각이 있거든.
I happen to have a really good idea.

마침 냉장고에 어제 먹다 남은 피자가 있었어.
I happened to have some left-over pizza from yesterday in my fridge.
(or) There happened to be some left-over pizza from yesterday in my fridge.

내가 아는 사람 중에 마침 곧 호주에 가는 사람이 있거든.
I happen to know someone who’s planning to go to Australia soon.

1.2 it just so happens(happened) that + ~

위 I happen to [V] 와 다르게 좀 더 우연적인 느낌을 주고 싶을 때 이 표현방법을 사용한다.

때 마침 나한테 현금이 좀 있어.
It just so happens that I have some cache on me.

때 마침 냉장고에 어제 먹다 남은 피자가 있었어.
It just so happened that I had some left-over pizza from yesterday in my fridge.

내가 아는 사람 중 곧 호주에 가는 사람이 있거든.
It just so happens that I know someone who’s planning to trip to Australia soon.

2. 혹시

2.1 happen to [v]

Example

너 혹시 현금좀 있니?
Do you happen to have some cash on you right now?

너 혹시 이런거 어디서 살 수 있는지 알아?
Do you happen to know where I could get something like this?

너 혹시 먹을 것좀 있어?
Do you happen to have something to eat?

혹시 주위에 곧 해외여행 가는 사람 있어요?
Do you happen to know anyone who is planning to go abroad soon?
Do you happen to know somebody who is planning to go on a trip overseas soon?

2.2 by any chance

혹시 현금좀 있으세요?
Do you have some cash on you by any chance?

너 혹시 지금 당장 먹을 것좀 있니?
Do you by any chance have something to eat right now?
