[English] ‘알다’의 다양한 표현

사실 (팩트) 에 대해서 아는 것을 의미
Find out / figure out
모르는 상태에서 아는 상태로 넘어가는 것을 말할 때 쓴다.
특히 figure out은 어떤 상황이나 문제에 대한 방법을 찾아내는 것을 말한다.
Example
I found out about that yesterday.
나 그거 어제 알았어.
I figured out how to use it.
나 이거 어떻게 사용하는지 알았어.
I figured out how to set up the alarm.
나 어떻게 알람 맞추는지 알았어.
Realize
문제가 어떤 것인지 알게 됬을 때 사용한다.
‘notice’ 과 다른점은 ‘realize’는 머릿속에서 알게 되는 것을 말한다.
Example
I realized what the problem was.
나 문제가 뭔지 드디어 알았어.
Notice
갑작스럽게 어떤 특징을 알게 됐을 때 사용한다.
따라서 ‘~ 했더라’ 라는 의미로 해석하면 편하다.
Example
I saw my friend at school today and I noticed (that) she had gotten a haircut.
나 오늘 학교에서 친구 봤는데 걔 머리 잘랐더라.
She came out with a new album, and I noticed (that) her style had changed a little bit.
걔 새로운 앨범 냈는데 머리 스타일 조금 바꼈더라.
I noticed you were drinking a lot of coffee today, did you have trouble sleeping last night?
너 오늘 커피 많이 마시던데, 어제 잠 설쳤어?
Recognize
‘Notice’와 비슷하게 의미하지만, 정확히 말하면 ‘보고 무엇인지/누구인지 아는 것’을 의미한다.
Example
She looked very familiar, but I couldn’t recognize her.
걔 엄청 친숙한데, 나 걔 누군지 모르겠어.
If you saw your boyfriend’s handwriting, would you recognize it?
만약 남자친구 손글씨 보면, 알아 볼 수 있어요?
Be aware of
‘어떤 것에 대한 존재 여부를 알다’ 라는 것을 의미한다.
Example
They were aware of the rules.
걔네들 그 규칙 알고 있었어.
Be familiar with
‘상황이나 어떤 것에 대해 잘 알다, 숙지 하고 있다.’ 라는 것을 의미한다.
Example
Are you familiar with this kind of situation?
너 이런 상황에 대해 좀 알아?
I’m not very familiar with this topic.
나 이런 주제 진짜 익숙하지 않아.
Tell
‘판단하다’ 라는 의미를 가진다. 한국어로 ‘판단하지 못한다.’라는 의미를 ‘나 몰라’ 라고 하기 때문에 실제로 말속에 쓰일때는 ‘알다’ 라고 해석한다.
Example
I can’t tell what it says.
나 이거 뭐 말하는지 모르겠어.
I can’t tell how they are different.
나 그것들 뭐가 다른지 모르겠어.
Can you tell what this is?
너 이게 뭔지 알아?
