이번주 주말에 친구들 몇명이랑 스키타러 가기로 했어.
I’m planning to go skiing with some friends this weekend.
이번에는 정말 좀 갈 수 있었으면 좋겠어요.
I’m really hopping that we can go this time.
(정말 좀 ~ 했으면 좋겠어: really hope that S + V)
이번주엔 정말 비 안왔으면 좋겠어요.
I’m really hopping that it doesn’t rain this weekend.
벌써 두 번이나 미룬거예요.
We’ve already postponed it twice.
이번에 안가면, 올해에는 더 이상 기회가 없을지도 몰라요.
If we don’t go this time, we might not get another chance this year.
그래서 이번엔 약속을 했어요.
So this time. we made a promise.
아주 급한 일만 아니면 취소하기 없기로요.
As long as it’s not an emergency, no one can cancel.
(as long as: 어떤 기대나 예상이 있을 경우 사용한다.)
(An emergency: 긴급한 상황을 말할 때는 관사 an을 붙인다.)
그래서 별일만 안 생기면 이번에는 갈 수 있을 것 같아요.
Unless something comes up, I think we’re going to be able to go this time.
(~생기다: come up)
Postpone vs. Delay
Postpone은 일반적으로 일정을 미루는 것을 표현할 때 사용하며, 의도치 않게 일정이 미뤄지는 것을 말 할 때는 delay를 쓰기 때문에 delay는 수동태로 쓴다.
Unless
Unless는 as long as + not의 의미를 표현할 때 사용한다.
- As long as it isn’t an emergency
- Unless it is an emergency
